Our fiction produces each year about 3000 new books written by Italian authors. Creating film and tv fiction based on novels is the new trend of international film industry. In Italy also it’s a growing phenomenon. According to an ANICA census, only over the last five years nearly 200 titles based on novel, stories, readings and literary works were made into films produced or co-produced in Italy. However there is no organic structure tying the publishing and the audiovisual industry. What counts are the personal contacts between publisher and producer, especially for the big companies. However there is a plethora of little known and sometimes even tiny publishing houses that struggle to make themselves known to a wider public. For this reason, as it’s first target in 2010 Calipso association  co-produced, together with Rome’s International Film Festival, the first edition of Industry Books: a meeting place for publishers and editors. Within the realm of Business Street, this year’s edition will take place on October 27th. In view of this event the association has launched BOOKCIAK- the first Italian web platform where book copyright owners can meet with potential film of fiction producers. A special initiative of the Ministero per i Beni e le attività culturali, (MiBAC) -Direzione Generale per il Cinema, together with ANICA(Associazione Nazionale Industrie Cinematografiche Audiovisive e Multimediali), APT (Associazione Produttori Televisivi) and ANAC (Associazione Nazionale Autori Cinematografici). The portal will catalogue the latest books published in Italy. It will also host those catalogued books waiting to be discovered. A search engine with different thematic entries will allow producers to easily surf around the infinite story archive.

Not just a mere website, BOOKCIAK is a real bridge between editors and producers.
